Many cities worldwide have originated near riverbanks. Indeed, rivers play an important role in guiding the developments of cities. Rivers are not solely used for water supply, drainage and irrigation. They also enable a relationship with the city’s social fabric.
The city of Zahle has experienced rapid unsustainable urbanization throughout the past years. This has negatively impacted its famous Berdawni river with various pollution forms.
Furthermore, the development of the city’s main boulevard covered sections of the river generating the detachment of the city from the river. In light of this urban change, it is fundamental that the city restores its valuable resource, thus improving the integration role of the river.
